Today was awesome! I got to teach again all day. Today was a student fundraiser and my co-op asked me if I could take over for the rest of the day because he was too busy filling out fund-raiser information.
Anyways, we did a group activity review questionairre thing. It was really fun! My kids were all really well behaved. I really feel like I'm getting to know everyone really well.
Today I ran the class through a Jeopardy review. It was fun to interact with the students and watch how they acted during the games. It was some what of a challenege to get some of the students in the back to get involved but eventually everyone began to get into it. This was also a good experience to see how each class has its own identity, and although they may have the same lesson it will rarely be the same each time.
Friday was so much fun! We played a review game called Swat. The class was divided into two teams and one student from each team was given a fly swatter to 'swat' the word that fit the definition I gave the students. They had a great time playing the game and the entire class was able to get involved with the review by answering the definition on their own. I really enjoyed getting to know the class better and I'm beginning to realize the significance of knowing the students on a personal level.
Today at placement I made my plans with my co-op about what I will be teaching next Friday. He gave me the topic and I immediately started reading about the subject all three text books that he had on his desk. I was amazed with the level and content that was in each book. I expected each book to be relatively the same, but they were not. One book covered more in depth about the origins of Islam while another book only spent a paragraph about it. It was an eye opener to me about the difference between textbooks. I had thought they were all basically the same content with a little change, but the three books I saw really opened my eyes to the importance of choosing the right book.
Today was awesome. I was really excited to teach for the entire day. Today, I learned the value and improtance of good time management. In addition, my coop really helped me to know the stuff I did right and wrong. By the end of the day, I was teaching very smoothly. I learned the importance of review in order to get children to understand particular lessons. They liked the hands-on activity I did with them. I did have to change my lesson a little to accomodate for Mr. Lister but still, today was great teaching!
